I think they couldn't make the Titan trio playable last time because of spoilers. It would have been weird if Annie was playable and Reiner and Bert weren't, and they couldn't give those two their Titan forms since Season 2 of the anime wasn't out yet.
Hopefully this time around since everyone knows they'll be playable at least in Survey Mode.
I was thinking they don't have as much story material to work with as last time since Season 2 is shorter. Maybe playing from the perspective of Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie would be nice and that could stretch out gameplay.
...It was weird to have Connie, Sasha and Historia playable but strangely all other titan shifters weren't...
It wouldn't even have been that hard to implement them as all models were already in place, it would have made sense if they didn't include their titans or if Annie's character was unlockable only after the main quest was done.
I imagine that Annie and Reiner's Titan gameplay won't be too much different from Eren's in the last game since they're similarly sized and move relatively similar to a human being. The interesting Titans will be Ymir's, since she has the funny four-legged run on the ground and her ape swing through the trees, assuming the game manages to keep it. That likely requires more animation and coding work to make happen.
Bertholdt I'm just curious about being he's so damn big. I mean, when you fought the Colossal in the first game, you couldn't even get up to his head without cutting at his knees and torso first. If you're playing from Bertholdt's view, how tiny is everyone else? Are you just fly swatting or stepping on your enemies?
....Guys stop the video at 00:22, look at what Reiner is holding O.O
Is that Annie's crystal? O.O
Does that mean I can actually make the BRA trio win or something like that? or there alternative canon? maybe it's possible to influence the story with our customizable character?
....sooo do I get the Pc version or the Ps4?
Maybe I am hyping myself too much and I am going to be really disappointed if the game sucks.
Considering that scene is from the anime when Reiner and Bertholdt get revealed as the Armored and Colossal Titans (that's Reiner jumping down from Wall Rose), I doubt that's Annie's crystal. I saw the flash and it definitely looks odd, but I don't think that it could be Annie since he was just holding Eren in the same hand a moment ago.
There is supposed to be some original story material for the game, supervised by Isayama. Since RBA are now playable with Titan forms, I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't some game-only missions centered around them since it seems a waste to add them and then not give them something cool to do with all the new Titan forms the dev team has no doubt been laboring hard over. But this is just speculation.
What I think would be nice, is if they adapted RBA's original journey to the Walls as unlockable levels. While that hasn't been shown in the anime yet, it's been done in the manga, and the previous game has pulled yet-to-be-animated manga material when it was not a major plot spoiler. We know RBA came from the outside and made it to the Walls, so it should be possible to play that sequence without ruining much.
However despite the video showing the reveal first, I don't think the scenes are subsequent for two reasons one being that they are clearly from two different times of the day and another that's not how it went during the reveal.
The Armored titan was sliding down the wall but in this shot it look like it simply jumped down the wall and in the reveal Eren had transformed before they landed causing them both to crash into the ground.
I don't think two scenes are the same event, you said there is some original material maybe there is an alternative story with Reiner actually coming back to save Annie?
I don't think they would do an alternate storyline because it feels like a lot of extra work for an anime-based game. I figure the original stories will probably be fluff pieces that can easily fit into existing canon and may or may not involve combat (and if they do, it'll probably be a simple side mission or two), because that would be the easiest way to do new content that Isayama will approve.
Doing an RBA alterate storyline to rescue Annie would be a very involved undertaking for the developer (probably multiple missions, a lot of unique art and level design) and that's time and effort not being spent on unique content for other characters, because I'm pretty sure the rest of the cast isn't going to have something that complicated. Even if Isayama was okay with the general idea, he probably would want to heavily supervise the story and dialogue (and who knows if he has time for that). I think there are too many hoops to go through to make this happen.
But who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The game's not out yet.
I guess we will only know when the game is out, fingers crossed :)
Guys stop at 3:47
WTF is that!?
I can't seem to see the Walls around that thing, just mountains o.O
wtf is going on there? did the game director go off a weird tangent?
