Armin (アルミン Arumin?) is a member of the Scout Regiment in the live-action films Attack on Titan, The Movie: Part 1 and Attack on Titan, The Movie: Part 2. He is the live-action counterpart of Armin Arlert from the original Attack on Titan manga. He is portrayed by Kanata Hongō.

Appearance

Armin has short, dark hair which hangs in front of his eyes. He wears the standard Scout Regiment uniform.

Personality

Armin is an intelligent and sympathetic person, and is often known for his modesty. Armin seems to be a likable individual, as he would constantly help out people from his village. He is observant, keeping tabs on Eren to make sure he stayed out of trouble.

History

Armin lived and grew up in the region of Monzen with both his parents, working in their shop. It is believed that he knew or learned about vast and different regions that existed beyond the Walls such as the ocean. He would also meet both Eren and Mikasa, becoming friends with both of them.

Story

Attack on Titan, The Movie: Part 1

Armin learns that Eren lost his job and goes over to see him. En route to his house, he stops and invites Mikasa to go see him too and also offers to help a young child fix a broken electronic item. The three friends travel to the outskirts of Monzen and come across a missile embedded in the ground. Despite Armin insisting he leaves it alone, Eren climbs up and starts kicking it; Armin then chastises him after Eren falls off the missile and hits the ground by saying it could have gone off and killed all three of them.

When asked by Eren if he would be happy in life by simply staying inside the Walls and inherit his family's business, Armin admits he would be more happy at creating machines; he then takes out the broken electronic and starts trying to fix it. When Eren continues to kick the missile and some dirt falls off, Armin is surprised to see a picture on the missile of the ocean; he goes on to tell both Eren and Mikasa about it, which further fuels Eren's desire to one day leave and travel beyond the Wall. Despite showing interest to the idea, Armin reminds Eren about the existence of Titans beyond the Wall; Eren scoffs at this and ridicules Armin for believing in them.

All three become fearful when a group of Garrison soldiers spot them, and Armin observes Eren fighting with several of them when they try to take Mikasa away. One of the newly arrived soldiers, Souda, offers to discipline the three and they are taken away. As they linger next to the Wall, Souda tells them that a new branch of the military is in the process of being formed that would focus on Titan activity and exploration beyond the Walls; he encourages the three to enlist in it once they get older. Just then, a loud rumbling is heard that causes Armin and his friends to be caught off guard. Armin believes it to be an earthquake but is told it is too loud to be one; suddenly, a loud and deafening roar is heard and all three youths are horrified to see a gigantic Titan emerge from the cloud of dust atop the Wall. They are told by Souda to flee to safety as the Titan begins kicking the Wall in an attempt to breach it.

Relationships

  • Eren - Armin and Eren are childhood friends, and Armin genuinely cares for Eren's wellbeing and safety. That trait was shown when Armin realized that Eren was fired from a job. Despite the fact that Armin is not as brave as Eren or the other soldiers, Armin still decided to accompany Eren in joining the Scout Regiment. Armin is usually considered to be Eren's voice of reason.
  • Mikasa - Like Eren, Mikasa is Armin's childhood friend. Armin was distraught when he believed that Mikasa had been killed by a Titan, and worked to save the rest of humanity from the Titans by joining the Scout Regiment.
