This article is about the Survey Corps soldier. For Rita Iglehaut's father, see Henning Iglehaut.

Henning (ヘニング Heningu?) was a member of the Survey Corps.

Appearance

Henning had short hair that seemed to be pointing towards the back of his head and he wore the typical Survey Corps uniform.

Personality

Little is known about his personality, but due to the fact that he chose the Survey Corps instead of any of the other military branches, Henning was a man who wanted to fight the Titans to guarantee mankind's survival.

Story

Clash of the Titans arc

Henning is one of several soldiers, including Gelgar, Nanaba, Thomas, and Lynne, brought by Mike Zacharias to oversee a group of potentially untrustworthy Survey Corps members.[1] The group is assembled close outside of Wall Sheena, and disarmed of their weapons due to the suspicions that one of the new recruits might be an accomplice to Annie Leonhart.

Before an investigation can begin, Titans appear within Wall Rose. Mike orders the group to split into four squads to warn the nearby villages.[2] Henning is in Nanaba's squad, which begins searching Wall Rose for breaches. However, the squad encounters Gelgar's squad coming from the opposite direction without finding any, signifying that there is no breach. As night falls, the two groups take refuge in Utgard Castle.[3]

Utgard Castle soon comes under attack from numerous Titans capable of moving during the night. Since the soldiers who had been under suspicion do not have vertical maneuvering equipment, the only ones able to directly engage the Titans are Henning, Gelgar, Nanaba, and Lynne.[4] However, when Henning and Lynne separate from Gelgar and Nanaba to check on the rookies within the castle while Nanaba and Gelgar eliminare more Titans, they are both struck by a projectile thrown by the Beast Titan which kills them instantly.[5]

Return to Shiganshina arc

Late in the Battle of Shiganshina, as Erwin Smith begins to lament the dwindling hopes of his dream, Henning stands among the many fallen Survey Corps comrades in Erwin's mind, wanting to know if their deaths had meaning.[6]
