During an overnight camp retreat with the Survey Club, the first year members get separated from the upperclassmen when Eren insists they follow a bearded Titan and are forced to take refuge inside a hut. When a snowstorm appears around them, Armin panics over the possibility of them running out of food; Eren notices him writing a farewell letter to his grandfather and tells him to not worry. Jean agrees that he is overreacting and places blame on Eren for getting them all separated. Connie wonders aloud if there are snow Titans within the area and recounts a tale of another group that got lost in the mountains and taken as slaves. Eren, Reiner and Bertolt begin to worry but Jean calls it ridiculous. Just then, Krista and Ymir inform the others that dinner is ready.

Connie points out some tracks nearby that are not human and immediately Bertolt, Eren and Armin begin panicking; Reiner reveals that his bear slippers were what made the tracks due to the cold conditions. As Bertolt and Eren question Reiner why he wears them, Armin tells himself that Jean must have merely passed out while sleepwalking the night before.
