Lyla Remus is a character appearing in Skies Above, the eighth short story of Attack on Titan Anthology.

Appearance

Lyla had short messy red hair and blue eyes. When working, she wore a red shirt and a long orange skirt. When she was working on her machine, her outfit consisted of a light brown shirt, a red scarf, gloves and brown pants.

Personality

Lyla's emotions were easily readable and she could not keep her cool when in stressful situations. She appeared to be smart enough to build a flying machine and brave, wishing to use it to go beyond the Walls, despite not knowing what there is.

Story

Lyla shows Rene the flying machine

At school, Lyla watches a butterfly with her colleague Rene Browning. They go inside and she congratulates two pupils for their work. They then come across Mr. Smith. Noticing the grades of his students, Lyla tells him how she finds surprising his son Erwin is not at top class.

Commenting on how little they know about their colleague, they come to an empty classroom and take a secret passageway that leads to their secret workshop. Lyla shows Rene the flying machine and the plans for the next step. Rene asks if they should share this invention with the technical department, to which Lyla refuses, stating that she spent ten years there doing nothing else than working on vertical maneuvering equipment and that there is no room for inventions there, but adds that once they know it works they can show them.

Later, as they are working on their machine, Rene and Lyla discuss its safety. Lyla expresses her wish to go outside and assures Rene she checked everything. They are interrupted by her brother Alfie who tells her his place will be available for them to test their machine. Lyla asks him to come at their school at night to help them move it out and thanks him.

The following day, Lyla and Rene see two Military Police officers talking to the headmaster. They go away and Lyla panics, fearing they know about what they are doing. However they witness the MPs arresting Mr. Smith instead. The same night, they empty their workshop and move their machine, failing to notice the headmaster saw them.

The two women go to Alfie's barn and Lyla reveals she made two seats, asking Rene to come with her. She accepts and they share a kiss. But as they put the machine out, she notices MPs and they fly away with their machine, MPs firing at them. Lyla is delighted that the machine works but noticing Rene is injured she wants to land. Suddenly, a Titan appears before them and the Garrison cannons fire, hitting their machine and making Rene fall, much to Lyla's horror. The Garrison shoots one more time at her and she passes away.
