Quote1 Father... We should just eliminate every single Titan now! Why?! Why can't you understand?! Quote2
— Rod to Mr. Reiss[3]

Mr. Reiss (レイスさん Reisu-san?) was the biological father of Rod Reiss and Uri Reiss, and the grandfather of Frieda Reiss and Historia Reiss. He was also one of the previous Reiss family members who possessed the Founding Titan and one of the true kings of humanity.

Appearance

Mr. Reiss was a middle-aged man, with neck-length hair that curled at the ends, and a receding hairline, which his sons would later inherit.[4] He had a mustache, as well as a short beard that went up and merged with his hairline. Like those before him, who inherited the First King's will, he had dark, vacant eyes.

History

Succession Ceremony

Uri and Rod try to decide who will hold the Founding Titan next

He inherited the Founding Titan and the position of king during the Reiss family succession ritual from an unknown Reiss. When he was the wielder of the Founding Titan, he refused to rid the world of Titans, as he inherited the will of the First King who saw a rule by them as true peace. His sons Rod and Uri Reiss pleaded with him on multiple occasions.[5] It was so much so, that Rod was locked behind bars because of his repeated attempts to convince him.[6]

Eventually it came time to pass on his powers and position to one of his sons. Like former wielders of the Founding Titan, he was chained to the ground so that the next inheritor could eat him after transforming into a Titan and regain human form.[5] Uri volunteered, asking Rod to pray. After the procedure, Rod realized Uri had inherited the same ideology the moment he looked into his eyes, realizing at the same time that Uri had become God.[7]

Abilities

Like other Founding Titans, he had:

  • Memory Manipulation: This ability is related to the "Invincible Power," the Founding Titan. He could manipulate the memories of any human if he wanted, with the exception of the Ackerman family, the noble families, and the Asian bloodlines.

Power of the Titans

Though his Titan form is never shown, he possessed the same regular abilities as Titans and other holders of the Power of the Titans.

  • Regeneration: Like all Titans, he possessed healing abilities, being able to regenerate injuries that would be fatal to humans in minutes.
  • Enhanced Strength: All users of the power have enhanced strength compared to not just humans, but Titans as well.
  • "Invincible Power": Briefly mentioned by Rod as having the potential to exterminate the Titans. It is unknown if he ever mastered this ability, but all Reiss members that take part in the succession ceremony gain this ability.
