Phil is a young adult man with short-cut black hair. He wears the standard uniform of the Garrison Regiment.
Story
The Struggle for Trost arc
After Trost District is attacked by the Colossal Titan and breaks down, Phil and the rest of his squad take up positions atop Wall Rose to serve as lookouts, in case the Colossal Titan returns. As Hannes admires the traps that were laid out along the wall for approaching Titans, Phil expresses his fear for their comrades in the vanguard.[1]
Clash of the Titans arc
During the Titan crisis in Wall Rose, Phil accompanies Captain Hannes in their search for the breach in the Wall.[2]
Phil is again seen with Hannes when the latter reports to Hange Zoë that they were unable to find a breach in Wall Rose.[3] When Bertholdt Hoover and Reiner Braun reveal themselves to be the Colossal and Armored Titans, Phil witnesses their fight with the Scout Regiment, and Eren Jaeger's kidnapping.[4]
Phil reports about Titans found among the 104th recruits
In the aftermath of the fight, he is sent to report to Commander Pyxis that there is no breach in Wall Rose, and that three Titans were found hiding in the 104th Cadet Corps. He then returns to Wall Rose with Erwin's soldiers[5] to participate in the mission to rescue Eren.[6] Upon reaching a Forest of Giant Trees where the traitors are believed to have fled, Hannes orders Phil to round up their horses while the others enter the woods.[7] Shortly afterward, he is present when Commander Erwin orders the charge to retrieve Eren Jaeger from the Armored Titan.[8]
Trivia
Phil's early design
- In Season 1, Phil's appearance differed from his later appearance in Season 2, which was more faithful to his manga counterpart's appearance. In his anime debut, Phil had blond hair with much smaller eyes and eyebrows.[1]
