The Show Must Go On (ショウ マスト ゴーオン Shō Masuto Gōon?) is the 7th and final chapter of the 8th volume and the 59th chapter overall of the Attack on Titan: Junior High manga, written and illustrated by Saki Nakagawa.

Overview

Eren writes a script for the class production, but it is eventually revised by Armin, whose script is preferred by the class. When Armin carelessly leaves his script in the classroom, Ms. Reiss seizes the opportunity to change it, so that Krista secures the role of the female lead.

Summary

Eren thanks the class for contributing to the final script and narrates it: a long time ago, the only daughter of a poor farmer dreamed of wiping out every last Titan, but her parents opposed the idea. When she met a stranger who also hated Titans, they ran away and faced different hurdles together. In the end, they were able to eradicate all Titans and live a peaceful life by each other's side. The class falls silent upon hearing the story, but Eren believes that the script was good.

Later, Eren receives Armin's revision of the script he wrote himself. While ninety-nine percent of what he wrote was cut out, he expresses his approval for the revised script. The new script narrated the story of humanity as the prey of the Titans, who predated on them as civilization had lived encaged by the Walls. When the Titans invaded the Walls, the youth decided to attack them using Vertical Maneuvering Equipment, which were originally used for wall cleaning, but to no avail. In the end, despite their defeat, their resilience inspired civilians to rise up against the Titans. Eren becomes emotional over the script, while the rest of the class read through it. Ymir and Krista compliment Armin's revisions, and Armin announces that they will begin casting the roles tomorrow.

At night, Ms. Reiss enters the classroom and finds Eren's and Armin's scripts on the teacher's desk. She reads through both of them and compliments one, but bashes the other. While she finds the story compelling, she changes a portion of the script, believing that it will make it better.

The next day, Armin is relieved that the script was still in the classroom as he had left it the other day. Before he could read through it again, Eren begins to list down all the roles on the chalkboard. Suddenly, Armin realizes that the roles Eren had written on the board did not exist in his revision of the script. Nonetheless, Eren leads the class in assigning the roles, but no one volunteers until the role of the Princess is brought up, which causes a ruckus among the girls in class. Suddenly, Ms. Reiss shows up and demands that they draw lots for the roles instead. However, when Sasha chooses the only red-colored paper in the box, Ms. Reiss threatens her into choosing another one.

As the rest of the class draw lots, Krista, who is at the back of the line, notes to herself that she must not choose the red paper, otherwise Ms. Reiss will get mad. However, when it is her turn, she is surprised to find out that it is the only one left. Despite getting angry at the other students for nearly choosing it, Ms. Reiss gladly gives it to Krista, who finds out that she has received the role of the Princess. This causes a commotion in class with the female students calling it rigged. Armin suspects that Ms. Reiss changed the script overnight, but Eren finds nothing wrong with the new one, completely forgetting the original storyline that Armin had written. Ms. Reiss tells him and Armin to choose their roles as they are the only ones left, and Eren expresses his interest in claiming a certain role, which has not been picked yet.

On the day of the drama festival, the class teacher praises the students for their hard work, while Armin, Jean, and Bertolt praise an unnamed student for putting up with the production until the end. Thinking that they were talking about him, Eren, who plays as the male lead, thanks the class for the compliments. However, Jean yells at him for the incorrect assumption, which causes Reiner, who is in costume playing as the literal wall in the play, to mediate the fight. Armin, Jean, and Bertolt reveal that they were talking about him all along, making Eren dash out of the classroom to cry.
